The temperature was a cool 48 degrees at launch with water temps in the upper 70’s. Bluebird skies were overhead all day and there was little or no wind. At the weigh-in most of the experienced anglers on Mt. Island complained of a slower than normal bite, with some members not even bringing a limit of five fish to the weigh-in. | Lake Wylie Results 11 November 2007 Anglers faced temperatures in the upper 20’s and a fog covered lake as they set out Sunday morning from Nivens Creek Access in York County. Sky’s were clear and the wind was light and variable. Water temps on the lower lake were in the upper 50’s to lower 60’s, and the South Fork River was around 72 degrees. Most anglers spent the day drifting and reported catching large numbers of channel catfish in the 4-6 pound range in various parts of the lake. The second place team of Marty and Jeff Green reported catching 32 fish in their eight hours on the water. Baits varied and included bream, white perch, blue back herring, and gizzard shad. In the end it was a gamble on a long run up river in search of blue catfish that paid off for Rodger Taylor and Dieter Melhorn. The forty minute boat ride in the cold temperatures resulted in a 90 minute blue bite that disappeared with the morning fog. By 8:45am they had four blues that totaled over 60 pounds in the boat and spent the rest of the day looking for one more fish to fill out their limit of five fish. The next event will be on Lake Norman December 9th at 7:00am out of Hager’s Creek Access. Results 1) Rodger Taylor and Dieter Melhorn…70.0 pounds 2) Marty and Jeff Green…26.0 pounds 3) Cary Vanden Broecke and Rob Low…25.4 pounds Big Fish…Rodger Taylor and Dieter Melhorn…18 pounds Points Race after Lake Wylie Tournament 1) Rodger Taylor and Dieter Melhorn…22 points 2) Rob McHenry and Karl Emerson…14 points 3) Cary Vanden Broecke and Jason Low…12 points 4) Marty and Jeff Green…8 points 5) Walter Lively…6 points |
| Lake Wylie WINNERS |
| Lake Norman Results December 9, 2007 It was a warm start for a December tournament as anglers headed out on Lake Norman this morning. Five boats entered the final event of the season and were treated to light winds, clear skies, and morning temperatures in the upper 40's. From reports most anglers found their fish drifting. Those who anchored were unsuccessful. Most anglers complained of a slow early bite that picked up as the day went on. In the end club veterans Kevin Custer and Jerry Hilderbran had the winning stringer of fish. Club vice president Karl Emerson and Rob McHenry were second. A surprise appearance by Mac Byrum put himself and partner Cary Vanden Broecke in third place. Awards will be handed out at the January 2008 meeting at the Gander Mountain store in Mooresville. Lake Norman Results 1) Kevin Custer and Jerry Hilderbran…52.6 pounds 2) Karl Emerson and Rob McHenry…34.6 pounds 3) Mac Byrum and Cary Vanden Broecke…28.4 pounds Big Fish…Kevin Custer and Jerry Hilderbran…17.4 pounds Carolina Catfish Club 2008 Points Race For the first time the Carolina Catfish Club used a points system to decide its points winner. In the past, like most tournaments, the club used a cumulative weight to decide the winner. The one problem with this system is that one person can win a points championship with a good showing on one lake. The points system allows more people to be in a position to win the points championship going into the final event. In the end the points system reflected the same ending as a total weight system would have. 14 pounds separated first from second place and four points was the spread on the points. First Place...Rodger Taylor and Dieter Melhorn 26 points (107.4 pounds) Second Place...Karl Emerson and Rob McHenry 22 points (93.4 pounds) First place receives their entry fee paid for the 2008 Cabelas King Kat Classic in Henderson, KY. Second place receives a Hydroglo light donated by Mac Byrum. |
